                Lecture:
The desire and drive to maintain a healthy and attractive smile for a lifetime has never been greater. This desire has created a great need for modern dentistry to offer Highly attractive, yet conservative procedures. The objective of this course is to review and present different treatment options that are available to restore the damaged tooth with minimal or no further reduction of the remaining healthy tooth structure using adhesive concepts and materials. At the conclusion of this thought-provoking presentation, participants will become familiar with concepts that will challenge traditional notions for restorative care. This paradigm shift will ultimately result in safer, more conservative therapies, which respect and reproduce the natural tooth’s biomechanical, functional and esthetic properties more closely than ever before.

                Objectives:
                • Learn the advantages of offering protective products and procedures to protect and enhance unrestored natural teeth
                • Learn the advantages and techniques for direct composite veneer restorations versus porcelain veneer restorations
•. Learn the advantages and techniques for “fragment reattachment” offractured teeth
                • Learn the advantages and techniques for using bonded single tooth replacement of missing anterior teeth

My objective is to help everyone understand that Pankey’s cross of life requires us to be healthy and fit. We are in a physically demanding profession that puts stress on our neck, shoulders, back, legs, forearms, wrist and fingers along with our brain. We need to keep our body healthy and fit to last a lifetime in our profession. There is a triad that needs to be followed to be healthy and fit for the long haul. We need to 1) workout in some way to move and strengthen our core muscles, 2) Eat a properly balanced diet to maximize our energy and immune system and 3) Sleep the right amount to replenish the chemicals and get the rest we need to be 100% in our life as a dentist.

When treatment outcomes do not match the expectations our training and the current standards of care for our patients, what might our response be? Treatment for periodontitis for decades had followed a sequence of initial therapy, reassessment, surgical interventions and professional maintenance. Even advanced training in that strategy reinforced the expectations for long term, sustainable periodontal health. So when careful assessment and analysis in the years following that protocol did not prove that treatment sequence to be successful for a large number of patients, where could the surprised practitioner begin?

Today’s restorative dentists need to enhance their cosmetic skills in order to achieve growth and profitability in their practices. As a result of the latest high strength injectable composite technology, dentists can now quickly, easily and predictably treat cervical (abfraction) lesions with beauty, strength and function beyond patient expectations. Improvements in composite polymerization shrinkage, reduction of shrinkage stress and occlusal wear, have made injectable composite material a great aesthetic option. This course will demonstrate, in a step-by-step fashion, how to use high strength injectable composite quickly and easily, so that an aesthetic result with a high success rate and predictable outcome can be achieved.

                Participants will learn:

                • how to place injectable composite in cervical (abfraction) lesions so that they don’t fall out…an untapped resource in your practice!

                • how to use today’s universal adhesives.

                • how to create “super dentin” using the selective-etch option.

                • many other clinical tips and advanced skills in composite placement that will promote your practice.

After taking this course, you will be educated on the treatment modalities and types of cosmetic restorations that can impact on your ability to deliver a new level of dentistry.
